  1. Font Awesome

    Hi Windward team!

Windward does fully not support printing of Front Awesome: it does support it when running from the Designer and selecting the output = Word, but it does not support it when using html or pdf output. Your support team indicated that "the script and <i> class html elements required by Font Awesome are not supported currently by Windward html".
The proposed workaround is get the images in a browser or copied elsewhere, screenshot them, and then bring in those images in an Import or Out tag.

However, handling of images is very fiddly in Windward as it…

  2. Support new chart types in Office 2016

Windward doesn't currently support the new chart types introduced in Office 2016, for example Treemap and Sunburst.
    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/available-chart-types-in-office-a6187218-807e-4103-9e0a-27cdb19afb90

From Windward Support: 'They are implemented in Excel differently than the older chart types, and Windward literally doesn't "see" them.'

Including these chart types in a template results in a corrupt report. The data still generates however any sheets containing charts are blank.

The workaround is to have an Excel template containing these charts point to an external datasource, which is generated by Windward. This is not practical for our end-users who need point-and-click reports.

    Hello reporter,

We are declining this idea for the time being. This is a very large amount of work to implement, and is divergent from our current development goals. I have put a ticket into our backlog to add support to these new chart types. If you have a specific chart type that is a higher priority for you, please enter an additional idea for that chart specifically. If you have multiple charts that are higher priority, you can enter multiple tickets. This will help us make sure, if we do develop support for one of these charts, we do the one that will make the biggest difference! Thank you for your suggestion, and please enter any other ideas you have to improve our products.

  3. Extend the XPath Wizard to support functions

You recommend that we always use the XPath Wizard to create tags, but as soon as we want to use anything other than the most simple XPath expression, we have no choice but to write it by hand.

Extending the XPath wizard to support standard XPath functions (e.g. count, addition, etc) would allow us to always use it to construct our tags.

In our conversation with Ryan yesterday he recommended that we always use the XPath Wizard for creating tags. Is there any plan to extend the wizard to support XPath functions, e.g. count, addition, etc? As it stands, there…

    Hello Brooke,

We have reviewed this idea, and unfortunately have not planned it for work at the moment. That being said, we have entered a story for this functionality and put it in our work backlog. For now I will close this request as designed, but if we plan this ticket for development in the future, I will update this request then.

Thank you very much for your idea.

  5. Add class HTML attribute to all HTML tags.

The documentation at https://ohana.windwardstudios.com/m/76878/l/899627-html-and-css-tags-and-attributes-supported-by-out-tags notes that the class html attribute is only valid for the p tag. I would request that the class attribute be valid for all supported tags. This would allow me to provide easier default styling to all tags instead of having to ensure all tags of a type have a default set of style attributes.

  10. Include functionality to update formula fields in word

Very often I need to use Formula fields to calculate total/summary of some columns of a Word table. This fields do not get updated by word automatically and requires the users to update them manually pressing CTRL + A and then hitting F9.

I am wondering if you include a functionally that would update the formula fields while printing a word template through windward autotag/.net engine?

    Thanks...

  11. Allow windward to distinguish between duplicate tables with different schema names on same postgres database

Postgres databases does not limit a users ability view table and column names based on user access rights (read for detail: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20201436/how-to-restrict-access-to-schemas/20202163#20202163)

When valid duplicate table names (different schemas) exist then windward data bin places all of the fields from the duplicate tables into one table, sometimes resulting in duplicate field names or adding in fields that don't exist.

We can work around it by editing the xml but this is counterproductive as our database is continually changing after every release.

Please adjust windward so that schemas are used to differentiate between duplicate table names.

We tried to duplicate this issue and were not able to. In all of our tests Windward used the schema.table.column notation, not table.column.

If you can provide an example of this issue, that would be a bug (not a feature request) and we will fix it immediately.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this suggestion but declined it for development since some of this functionality is already supported. We can only support associating tags in a template to a forEach loop, not objects that are absolutely positioned in the template that are not tags. To specify what forEach loop a tag should appear in you can use the anchor property that is supported for tags as charts and bitmaps. This will allow you to absolutely position the bitmap or chart tag and then specify what forEach tag it should appear under. Please read more about the anchor property here: https://ohana.windwardstudios.com/m/76878/l/1058495-how-do-i-use-the-anchor-and-var-properties-in-16-2

  15. Create functionality in Java Engine to skim document template variables/nodes

As per Request #12304, only AutoTag is able to skim the variable paths from the document template. Java Engine does not have a method/functionality to retrieve all the variable paths ('Data/books/authorName'). WIll you be able to cater this request in the Java Engine? Thanks!

  16. Expand date parsing to other standard formats

Currently, AutoTag is able to parse dates stored in ISO format (e.g. "2017-09-12T00:00:00.000Z" stored with the toISOString JavaScript method) without any additional input from the user beyond specifying a date output format and type. However, it throws an error when other standard formats are used, such as that generated by the toDateString JavaScript method (e.g. "Tue Jan 12 2017 00:00:00 GMT-0000 (UTC)"). A workaround may be to spell out the format in the Input attribute on the tag, but this is cumbersome and not user-friendly. It would be better if AutoTag natively parsed standard formats other than ISO.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this idea internally but it has been declined for development. The reason is that the workaround you named to specify the input format of the date is already the supported functionality. Because of this we are not focusing on further improvements to date input formats at the present time. Thank you for your suggestion, and please submit any other ideas you have to improve our products.

  17. Justified Alignment With Condensed Font Spacing

Justified alignment with condensed font spacing is resulting in left alignment instead of justified alignment in the PDF output. A basic template attached to this request can demonstrate this issue.

  18. Name cells populated by forEach tag

Make possible to name cells populated by forEach tag according to a given pattern.
The pattern might include a prefix or a suffix with an item index to get a unique cell name.
Additionally allow to name entire range populated by forEach tag.

  19. Refresh Tags

What if when a document was generated from a template instead of replacing the Tag with the data have the data replace the Tag friendly name. Then the generated document could be passed around modified and when all the changes are agreed upon then run the template again to get the latest values from the data source.

Recently I've had several prospects ask for this kind of functionality and this is the only idea that I could think of that might allow users to refresh their data in generated documents.
