  1. Dynamic Word Charts

It is useful to re-use templates and just connect them to a different (similar) datasource. However depending on the values, charts can stop displaying properly. Legends may get cut-off for example.
It would be nice if charts were smarter and automatically adjusted to new data.

  2. Validation to identify non-existent XML data sources

I am currently building a new template with changing XML data sources and values.
The values prove to be no issue as the new data is simply pulled into the Output.
However, if the XSD/XML changes, say the data point name, then the Output just ignores the Autotag ie. null value inserted in Output. The validation tool doesn't identify 'broken' Autotags and actually states that the validation was successful. This also applies to the 'Preview' button, which returns a null but doesn't mention that the data point couldn't be found.

  3. Tags inserted into a template should automatically adopt the output to default style of the Word doc rather than Times New Roman size 12

An annoying and time consuming to eradicate 'feature' when auto-tagging into Word is that tags inserted into the template, default to Times New Roman size 12, rather than taking on the font style and size of the whole template ie. normal default.

This applies to both, in the actual template and more annoyingly in the output file generated.

  4. HTML with No CSS

Please provide the ability to produce HTML without embedded CSS that results in the same styles and appearance as the default HTML. While bloated in size by embedding all the CSS into the HTML tags, this can improved integration with other applications that one would like to use with the resulting HTML.

  5. Centralized Logging

We would like the ability to take the log events generated from Windward and deposit them to a centralized logging repository, one that takes all events logged for the entire enterprise. We use SEQ for this, mostly utilizing the Serilog's framework to perform the logging. However, NLog, the current logging framework used by Windward, does support logging to SEQ, and thus what is really needed is the ability to log those events to different repositories, depending on the needs of the consumer.

Alternatively, if we had the ability to provide an extended class or implemented interface to the .NET engine…

  6. Deprecate .NET 3.5 and Java 1.6 in Version 16

Windward is ending support for the following versions of .NET and Java for their respective Engines in Version 16.

Drop support for the following in Version 16:

    .NET 3.5
    Java 1.6

Microsoft ended support for .NET 3.5 on January 12th, 2016. Support for Java 1.6 ended in February 2013.

Further developing our Engines on .NET 4 and Java 1.7 enables us to bring you the best products using functionality unavailable in previous versions. Please let us know if you have comments or questions related to the deprecation of these products or how to upgrade your existing environment. Thank you.

  7. Support for test.salesforce.com

With the Salesforce.com Datasource there isn't a way to switch the salesforce.com instance used to a sandbox instance.

Sandbox instances use test.salesforce.com as opposed to production and developer instances which use login.salesforce.com to create the connection.

Our template authors do not always have access to the production instance to do development of templates.

Also we usually run User Acceptance Testing against sandbox instances.

So without this functionality we are unable to develop or test new autotag templates.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed your suggestion internally but have decided not to target it for development. That being said, we will keep our eyes on this ticket in the future, and if we see additional support for this, we will re-consider it for development. Thank you very much for your suggestion, and please enter any other ideas you have to improve our products.

  10. Use a value from an XML file to determine conditional formatting values like colocell or others

Be able to use a tag element value to define conditional formatting parameter value:

    Something like this:
    <wr:out select=”!/root/ap/qu/elements/c_clau1” condition=”=TRUE::cellcolor!!!/root/ap/qu/elements/c_color::false”/>

    Instead of:
    <wr:out select=”!/root/ap/qu/elements/c_clau1” condition=”=TRUE::cellcolor!!ff8800::false”/>

    Hello reporter,

We have reviewed your request, and are also interested in this functionality, but are waiting until more interest is expressed to work on this. If we see the community express more interest towards this functionality and similar functionality we will review this again. 11. Open the Tag Editor window in the center of the screen rather than below the cursor

Currently, when you double-click a tag to open the Tag Editor, the window is opened directly below the position of the cursor. That's fine if the tag is at the top of the window, but if it's near the bottom then the Tag Editor window is partially or even almost completely off the screen. I would prefer that the editor window open consistently in the center of the screen (or perhaps even better, optionally remember its last position and open there) so I don't have to drag the window to see its contents and so it appears consistently and reliably.

    Hi Brent,

I just tested this request in Word 2016, Designer 16.2.0, Windows 10 and the Tag Editor was opened directly in the middle of the screen instead of towards the bottom. Perhaps this was fixed somewhere along the way! Thank you for your idea, and please submit any other suggestions you come up with.

  12. Enable double-clicking a tag in the footer to open the Tag Editor

Currently, if you double-click a tag in the header or main body of a Word document, the Tag Editor window opens. This is not true in the footer. A workaround is to double-click the footer tag, then double-click somewhere on the doc outside the footer, but this is not user-friendly and is not consistent with the functionality in other parts of the document. A sample is attached that replicates the issue.

I understand this is due to limitations of the Word/Office API, but if this can stay on the radar as something to fix if the Office API gets better,…

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this idea internally, but it has been declined due to Word API limitations. Since we can’t offer this functionality due to the limitation, we recommend opening tags in the header and footer using the “Edit Tag” button in the ribbon. Thank you very much for your idea, and please enter any other suggestions you have to improve our product.

  13. Make Find/Replace work in header/footer

AutoTag's Find/Replace works great in the main body of a Word document (for example, when a data source is renamed and you need to update the tags that use it), but it doesn't change anything in the header or footer. This isn't very user-friendly. A sample is attached that replicates the issue.

I understand this is due to limitations of the Word/Office API, but if this can stay on the radar as something to fix if the Office API gets better, that would be great.

  14. Windward Tags need to support Tick Mark

We have bought your software windward tag and about to go live and the pdf needs to mandatorily support tick mark instead of x mark.

    Windward Support Team,

We have checkboxes to design user choices in Auto Tag Windward form, but when we generate the pdf , windward is not generating a user friendly checkbox UI element as part of pdf generation. Windward puts a x mark what we need is a tick mark

In the attached image it is indicated very clearly that at the top section where there is a x mark is what windward generates .

    However…

  15. Throw exception if document output = Null

If I design a template, and the output results in no content displayed, can Windward send a system-level notification (e.g. throw an exception in the Java engine)?

Ideally, if the output is null, no document would be generated or sent, or Windward would communicate that the document is blank.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this idea internally but it has been declined for development. We recommend that you check the variables for your output document that could cause it to output a blank document and use this information to make a decision before document generation instead of responding to an exception afterwards. Thank you for you suggestion, and please submit any other ideas you have to improve our product.

  16. Use pod without formatting

I would like to be able to use a pod but retain the formatting of the destination template document and ignore any formatting from the pod (or not even store the formatting in the pod). In particular, in Excel I only want to be able to put an OUT tag into a cell from the pod bin and keep the formatting of the cell.

The current workaround (in Excel) is:
create a pod based on a single tag
Put the pod into a cell in the new document in a temporary sheet
Copy the cell text then paste into the…

We have reviewed this idea internally but have declined it for development currently. We have seen some other requests related to carrying properties into Excel output recently, so even though we declined this for current development, we will keep our ears open for related requests in the future and may plan development on this then. If we do plan development on this idea, I will update the ticket then. Thank you for your idea, and please submit any other suggestions you have to improve our products!

I wanted to follow up on this suggestion. We have made many improvements to the RESTful Engine in recent years, so I wanted to ask if this was still an issue for you. We are looking to improve our errors in the future to be more clear, so if this is still an issue we will consider adding it to that effort.

  20. Add ways to control report resource usage such as setMaxPages and setMaxMemory

I would love to be able to set limitations on the report engine's resource utilization to cut down on poorly written templates consuming too many resources. setMaxMemory or setMaxPages should be callable on processReport as a way to limit what the report generates.

We have reviewed this idea internally but declined it for development due to lack of votes. While we are not planning to develop these functions for max pages/memory, we do already offer a parameter for the report object to set a timeout during output for these cases: dotnetdoc.windwardstudios.com/topic457.html
