Some of our most innovative features originate with the users of our software. Please use this forum to submit ideas for new features and enhancements to existing features. The more votes from users from different Customers an idea receives, the more likely the feature will be added in the near future.


How can we improve the newest version of Windward Core?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Different PDF converter/convert through Word

    We are having a lot differences between the Word output and that generated by Windward PDF. Spacing can be different and sometimes the PDF does things wrong that Word does correctly, such as text going through a footer or the PDF not breaking the page correctly when using Keep with Next. It seems to me a lot of defelopment time goes into trying to make the PDF output better.
    In literally every instant, the PDF from Word's Export feature worked correctly. Also, the output is half the file size, which is also very important for us.

    Hello Reporter,

    Perhaps you can benefit from Windward’s “Use Office for PDF Output” functionality, this sounds like the functionality you described.   2. Allow for dynamic drop down based on amount of returned rows

    Currently, when a drop down is created in a cell (static or dynamic) the drop down is removed when the report is generated.

    Either add a Windward drop down function (ideal), or support Excel generated drop downs.

    Another helpful addition to this would be to make the drop down options distinct (optional, chosen by user).

  3. Add ability to dynamically rename Excel worksheet

    For example, when using a Worksheet break at the start of the each iteration (Foreach tag).

  4. Faster opening Windward templates (data source timeout)

    We often use XML data sources hosted by a local development server. When this server is not available (not started or not a developer machine), WindWard Designer takes an big amount of time to figurfe out the resource is not available. As a result, a document takes about 2 minutes per data source to open. Our documents often have 2 data sources making it 4 minutes, etc.

    Faithful reproduction of Word rendering of charts for pdf and html, without using the Word rendering option. In particular, support all the series and series point label options, also the ability to add a "Picture or texture fill" into series "data label shapes" as a fill.

  6. Designer Input Parameter type Boolean

    Designer supports a number of types for template variables, but not type Boolean.
    We read the types of the template variables in order to decide which interaction element to provide to the user on our application's GUI.
    For some cases a number of tick boxes shall be provide on the GUI.

  8. Allow entering Array-type Input Parameters

    It would be great if we could add an array-type variable of either String or Number type as an input variable. This could be used to filter datasources with a IN statement, for example.

  9. Better ways to format X-axis in a Word chart

    In a Word chart I can't format the X-axis easily. More formatting options would be nice to have.

    For example, sometimes our data starts from 10 and then it increases by a factor of 10, so 10, 20, 30 and so on. In the screenshot that I attached you can see in black the way WindWard displays the X-axis and in red the way I would like to display it.

    Also, there's no way to automatically change the gap between labels so that they would always be separated nicely, no matter how long or short the data on the X-axis…

  10. Configure tags to accept xml inputs with different root elements

    Is it possible to configure Windward Designer tags to accept xml inputs with different root elements? For example, the sample template would produce valid output if the root element was "John" or "John_202205". In other languages, you do not always need to specify the root element. For example, you can use // to “ Selects nodes in the document from the current node that match the selection no matter where they are.”

    We have a client that we generate reports for who has a macro enabled spreadsheet they want us to re-produce.

    It's been a while and I wanted to check in. Does windward still not support XLSM or any macro-enabled spreadsheets? (We're using the .NET engine).

    We would like this available so our client can use macro-enabled spreadsheets.

  12. Scatter chart - same size for markers in plot area and in the legend

    Hello,

    Right now when working with a scatter chart in Word if you have different sizes for the markers they will be shown as different sizes on the plotted area, but in the legend the marker sizes are the same size.

    In the attached picture 1 and 2 have different sizes on the plotted area and in the legend they are the same size but smaller. Right now only marker sizes 3 and 4 behave normally (the marker size is the same on the plot and in the legend).

    I was told that this is a known limitaion.

    Develop a Page Break advanced property for the ForEach tag that does not start with the first iteration but rather with the second iteration so that if the ForEach tag is at the beginning of the document template, a blank page does not render for that first iteration.

  14. Ability to output equations in WindWard

    In the latest version of WindWard it's not possible to output Microsoft Equations, in the output .DOCX file the places where the equations should've been are left empty.

    Ideally, the equations are shown in the generated output.
