Some of our most innovative features originate with the users of our software. Please use this forum to submit ideas for new features and enhancements to existing features. The more votes from users from different Customers an idea receives, the more likely the feature will be added in the near future.


How can we improve the newest version of Windward Core?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  1. Allow entering Array-type Input Parameters

    It would be great if we could add an array-type variable of either String or Number type as an input variable. This could be used to filter datasources with a IN statement, for example.

  2. Expand the capabilities of meta data tree tool tips

    In the meta data tree, I would like the ability to modify the tool tip that is shown with newlines so that I can have a more extensive tip, and also with links so that users can get from the tool tip to company documentation.

  3. Different PDF converter/convert through Word

    We are having a lot differences between the Word output and that generated by Windward PDF. Spacing can be different and sometimes the PDF does things wrong that Word does correctly, such as text going through a footer or the PDF not breaking the page correctly when using Keep with Next. It seems to me a lot of defelopment time goes into trying to make the PDF output better.
    In literally every instant, the PDF from Word's Export feature worked correctly. Also, the output is half the file size, which is also very important for us.

    Perhaps you can benefit from Windward’s “Use Office for PDF Output” functionality, this sounds like the functionality you described.   4. Support Mirosoft Word DOCM file format and Macros

    We have many Microsoft Word template with Microsoft Word Macros in them (Word > Developer > Macros).
    The templates are saved in DOCM file format.
    Currently, Windward Report Designer supports using the DOCM templates with Windward Report Designer, to create outputs successfully and to save the output in DOCM file format, but the macros are not available in the output.
    Windward Report Designer shall support Microsoft Word DOCM file format and Macros, so that the Macros can be run after output generation.

  5. Escape key to exit the Edit Tag window

    Would be great if we can exit the Edit Tag window by pressing ESC key.
    Minor improvement - agree - but can be frustrating as it is part of basic standard usability.

  6. Add support for Office table styles to Excel templates.

    Currently, Office default table styles are not supported in tables in Excel templates, and don't appear in output generated from those templates. Formatting tables in Excel templates is basic functionality expected by Excel users, and limits the formatting options available for output generated from Excel templates.

  7. Use an OUT tag in a graph title

    I want to produce a series of graph for different equipment types, and put the equipment type in each graph title.
    There is a work around (put the graph title outside of the graph) which is ok for any advanced user. However, our plan is to give access to Windward Designer to a large crowd of users from our clients. These users will have limited support and training, i.e. each work around becomes a barrier. The expectation is that you should be able to put an OUT tag in the title

  9. Faster opening Windward templates (data source timeout)

    We often use XML data sources hosted by a local development server. When this server is not available (not started or not a developer machine), WindWard Designer takes an big amount of time to figurfe out the resource is not available. As a result, a document takes about 2 minutes per data source to open. Our documents often have 2 data sources making it 4 minutes, etc.

  10. Configure tags to accept xml inputs with different root elements

    Is it possible to configure Windward Designer tags to accept xml inputs with different root elements? For example, the sample template would produce valid output if the root element was "John" or "John_202205". In other languages, you do not always need to specify the root element. For example, you can use // to “ Selects nodes in the document from the current node that match the selection no matter where they are.”

  11. Support for Cell Diagonal Border for Word and PDF output

    Dear,
    please see picture - cell diagonal border is not generated in output.
    We would appreciate it at least for Car Insurance Card, which is obligatory to be of a certain look.

  12. Scatter chart - same size for markers in plot area and in the legend

    Hello,

    Right now when working with a scatter chart in Word if you have different sizes for the markers they will be shown as different sizes on the plotted area, but in the legend the marker sizes are the same size.

    In the attached picture 1 and 2 have different sizes on the plotted area and in the legend they are the same size but smaller. Right now only marker sizes 3 and 4 behave normally (the marker size is the same on the plot and in the legend).

    I was told that this is a known limitaion.

  13. In TEXT function, accept locale settings for the format, or at least let us specify decimal/thousands separators

    For the moment, the only ways to define a locale for formatting numbers (esp. decimal and thousand separators) is by using the general option (hence fixed) or an OUT tag (hardcoded).

    Our concern is that we produce documents in 25+ languages, for potentially 35+ countries, leading to a huge number of combinations. Having only fixed/hardcoded formats is therefore a problem.
    Also, we use a lot of variables to manipulate our data.

    Consequently, having a good TEXT function would be of great help to us. The possibility to specify a locale (language+country), or at least a language, in the format of…

  14. Ability to output equations in WindWard

    In the latest version of WindWard it's not possible to output Microsoft Equations, in the output .DOCX file the places where the equations should've been are left empty.

    Ideally, the equations are shown in the generated output.

  15. XLSM support

    We have a client that we generate reports for who has a macro enabled spreadsheet they want us to re-produce.

    It's been a while and I wanted to check in. Does windward still not support XLSM or any macro-enabled spreadsheets? (We're using the .NET engine).

    We would like this available so our client can use macro-enabled spreadsheets.

  16. Allow for dynamic drop down based on amount of returned rows

    Currently, when a drop down is created in a cell (static or dynamic) the drop down is removed when the report is generated.

    Either add a Windward drop down function (ideal), or support Excel generated drop downs.

    Another helpful addition to this would be to make the drop down options distinct (optional, chosen by user).

  20. Better ways to format X-axis in a Word chart

    In a Word chart I can't format the X-axis easily. More formatting options would be nice to have.

    For example, sometimes our data starts from 10 and then it increases by a factor of 10, so 10, 20, 30 and so on. In the screenshot that I attached you can see in black the way WindWard displays the X-axis and in red the way I would like to display it.

    Also, there's no way to automatically change the gap between labels so that they would always be separated nicely, no matter how long or short the data on the X-axis…
