create a wr slide break tag for powerpoint
The idea is so that you can 'manually' tell windward when you are in a loop on on a powerpoint slide to 'jump to'/start another slide - kinda like a dynamic powerpoint equivalent of word's next page break
6 votesHi Tina!
Since this is an old request, I suspected this functionality may have been developed. I tested in our upcoming 16.1 version by doing the following: I connected to our sample Northwind MSSQL database and created a slide with a forEach tag in the header selecting from the Categories table. Then I used the “break” property of my ForEach tag and set the value to ‘1’.
When I output this succeeded in giving me one slide for every category displaying the category name (an out tag I put in my forEach loop.)
Thank you, and please let me know if this does not resolve your feature request.

Provide a better user interface for entering variables
See DataPrompter for an example. (http://www.wordsite.com/DataPrompter2010.html)
When asking the user to provide input to a variable there is only the variable name to prompt them. Unless they hover over every entry field they don't know what information is expected.
It would also be useful to allow grouping of entry fields so related data can be entered together.

6 votesHi David!
Our UI has undergone many changes since this feature request was made. Currently users can fill out a description for each of their template variables so that users can better understand what they are needing to enter.
Thank you for your idea and please enter any other feature requests you might have with our newer versions!

Insert HTML with pictures in a report if path and filename in the image tag are correct
If path or file don't exist or if the file format is not supported, continue parsing the import file without inserting the picture. For size and position of the picture use the same rules like with <wr:import>

Make Word image cropping work with import tags
We need to crop images to a designated area, regardless of aspect ratio, because we serve images of all kinds of sizes and we want to prevent: a) an image from getting stretched/squashed and b) an image pushing the rest of the layout off the page. The images we serve are photos made during inspections by building inspectors with all sorts of mobile devices, in both landscape and portrait mode.
When you use an import tag and then preview/render, it will save the image it downloads in the document. I will call this the "preview image". Currently when you use…

Allow XML data source to be searchable
We want non-technical business users to be able to author simple letter templates using an XML data source. Currently, the template author has to know the XML structure in order to be able to drill down to select their desired element in either the tag builder or the data bin.
I would like my users to be able to search the XML structure. For example, if they want to include the customer's name in their letter, they could type in 'name', which would filter the XML elements displayed to them. The choice between /order/customer/name and /order/product/name then becomes obvious for…

XQuery to sort XML Data
XQuery could give more power to users so that they could do things like select sorted sets of XML data.

UI improvement - close Edit Tag screen with ESC key
Closing the edit tag screen with the ESC key is faster than clicking on the small close button.
It's a standard available across most software.

Allow a .net JsonDataSourceImpl to be constructed using a .net stream
When using the JsonDataSourceImpl, you must either point the data points to a file or web service. It would be helpful if the class constructor allowed a standard .net stream to be supplied.
4 votesHello Reporter,
We have reviewed this internally and I am happy to let you know this is already supported! Please check out our .NET API documentation for how to construct your Datasource using a stream. Thank you for your idea, and please enter any other suggestions you have to improve our products.

Per Report Configuration for Engine
I had to add "layout.document=off" in the web config file of .NET engine to enhance the performance of report creation. Time duration to create a particular report came down from 31 minutes to 7 minutes.
Unfortunately, the config parameter "layout.document=off" is not suitable for all types of reports.
In this context, per report config parameter setting would be useful, meaning the support for -
"Overriding configuration of .NET/Java Engine from external program at run time"? AND
Sending report specific configuration to the RESTfulEngine.
would be rescuer in the above situation.
Without this feature, product (Engine) is putting constraints to the…
4 votesThis has been available for some time. Call ProcessReport.setLayoutDocument() in Java and Report.LayoutDocument in .Net to turn this on/off.
In addition, starting with version 20.3, ProcessReport.getProperties() in Java and Report.Properties in .Net allow you to set any report-specific property for the report you are running.

Images in HTML specified as absolute URLs
We use Winward to generate HTML content for marketing emails. These mailers often have images included along with the text. However, some email clients block images in HTML that are embedded inline using base64 encoding. An alternative solution is to specify the source of the image as an absolute URL.
For example, the following inline embedded image:
<img src="data:image/jpg;base64, iVBORedghAAAfrdsdge=">should be replaced with:
<img src="https://www.myserver.com/car.jpg">.It would be great if Winward could support adding images specified by absolute URLs into templates.

Add test-engine message to the header instead of to the body
Our automated test process counts the number of pages of created documents. In some cases they can never be more than one.
Because of the extra body text "Report created by Windward test version - www.windward.net" our test cases fail when the document is just on the limit. See attached an example of such situation.
This could be avoided if the text was put in the header as a text box behind the text (like the workaround for creating a watermark, "Voorbeeld" in our test case).
This has the additional advantage for you, that all the documents will be…
3 votesHello Jurriaan,
I just tested, and this functionality is live in our most recent release! I see that our watermark is now put in the footer of the document, and appears on every page. Please submit a new idea if you have any other requests.
Thank you!

Disconnect DataSets from Datasources
Disconnect DataSets from Datasources. If we could create a dataset seperately (Like we do with Query Tags) we could have datasets defined in the template itself and not in the datasources. This allows us to change the datasource when generating the template on the Staging or Prod machines and still have the same subset of data selected.
It would make templates much more reusable as we could define a handful of more general datasources and limit the data requested by using DataSets in the templates.

Generate Partial Reports
We have some huge templates. Hundreds of pages long that results in reports that are thousands of pages long.
While entering data in our system, we'd like to ability to preview what the report will look like. Therefore, we are requesting partial template generation.
Example: I have just entered the data for pages 42-45 of a 200 page template. I would like to generate those page, which may end up being 5 or 10 pages long when generated.
3 votesThis has been added. Use ProcessReport.setRenderPages() in Java and Report.RenderPages in .Net.

Basic Authentication with Jira
AutoTag claims to support basic authentication on json requests. However, when trying to connect to Jira, Windward's authentication doesn't work. Having basic authentication work would allow us to run custom reports against the Jira API.

Licence management need improvment
Hi, Currently Licenses are associated with major versions. If new version downloaded then its needs new license key even though the contract is valid during that duration. It create the lot of issues as we have global user base and coordinating and sharing new license key is problem. Instead of generating the new keys , on your side the old licenses key should be automatically associated with new version if the contract is valid during that duration. This is applicable for Autotag as well as .NET Engine. Please consider this change on priority as we as planning to upgrade the…

Support JIRA as a datasource
We use JIRA in our development and would like to be able to source data from JIRA into our output reports.
1 voteHello Reporter,
We now have two ways you can connect to Jira from the Windward Designer:
You can connect via the API and basic authentication:
https://ohana.windwardstudios.com/m/76878/l/1294830-how-do-i-connect-to-the-jira-cloud-api-as-a-datasource-from-designer
Or you can connect via the 3rd party CData connector: https://ohana.windwardstudios.com/m/76878/l/1256754-how-do-i-connect-to-jira-data-source-using-cdata
