  1. Highlight corresponding open and close tags when selected

Similar to how code editors will highlight a closing bracket when an open bracket is selected (and vise-versa) to easily determine what is contained in the brackets and identify the scope of everything, I think it would be useful if the same idea was introduced with tags. For instance if a user selects and open foreach tag, then the corresponding closing foreach tag would also be highlighted.

This would make it a lot easier with massive templates and a bunch of loop and if-conditional nesting to find what belongs to what loop or conditional. This way if a conditional block…

    Hello Reporter,

I am happy to tell you this functionality is already supported! Select the opening tag (forEach, if, etc) and click the “Select Tag” button under the Tags section of the Windward ribbon and you will see a section of the template highlighted until the closing tag (endForEach, endIf, etc). Thank you for your suggestion, and please submit any other ideas you have to improve our product.

  2. HIDE/SHOW TAG with Flag for keeping/not keeping CALCULATIONS

A TAG to hide all what is coming up after this TAG, this could be a large calculation, tables etc. A TAG to put at the end to show again what is coming after. This could be the same TAG with a hide/show flag.

In the same TAG we could have an additional flag if the calculations between HIDE/SHOW are active or not.

If would be very helpful if we could put this TAG between IF/ELSE/END_IF.

  4. Include multiple templates in Office (DOCX/XLSX) output

We would like the ability to include multiple reports in a single Word or Excel document without having to have everything in a single template. For example, many of our users have a cover page, cover letter, quote summary, quote details and other reports that they may or may not include in a proposal. This is fine in PDF, but only one report at a time may be selected in Word/Excel format. For various reasons, we encourage users to choose PDF output, but sometimes they need access to the other formats and currently have to generate one document at a…

  5. Would like the RESTful engine to be able to return plain text instead of base64 encoded response for CSV output

Would like the RESTful engine to be able to return plain text instead of base64 encoded response for CSV output requests. Currently, all responses are returned base64 encoded which wouldn't be necessary for a CSV report just plain text would be better.

  6. Generate HTML output in multipart MIME format

One of the things we use the Windward Engine for is to generate HTML (based on templates) that is then sent out via email.
But a lot of mail clients don't support the way the Engine handles <img> tags (with the src property as an inline base64 encoded string).
Since multipart MIME is supported by many more mail clients, it would be great if the Windward Engine could generate its output in multipart MIME format!

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this internally and decided to decline it for upcoming development due to lack of votes. That being said, we are also interested in this functionality and how it might enhance our products. We will keep our eyes on this idea in the future to see if it gains additional support or if similar ideas are entered. Thank you for your suggestion, and please enter any other ideas you have to improve our products.

  7. Merge the printed documents

We have letters printed based on the letter (unique)id so when there are 100 letters for example we do have 100 letters(documents) printed which is great and that is how we anticipate the outcome, along with that we have a mail merge process that merges all 100 individual letters to one document, this way the team which prints the letter will have to send the one file to the machine for printing all 100 letters instead sending 100 different individual letters. I want to check and see if we have any process that merges individual printed letters to one single…

  8. Designer support for MSWord Comments

When generating reports we would like AutoTag to provide the ability to create MSWord comments. Our reports can be quite large and require QA reviews. As part of our JSON we include a comments/notes structure. We'd like to take that JSON element and create a comment.

  9. Justified Alignment With Condensed Font Spacing

Justified alignment with condensed font spacing is resulting in left alignment instead of justified alignment in the PDF output. A basic template attached to this request can demonstrate this issue.

  11. Don't allow a POD to be created if it contains undefined variables.

Currently, a POD can be created that contains Tags which refer to variables defined in other Tags not included in the POD. Then those Tags fail when the POD is used in another template. Request that when a POD is saved, Report Designer checks whether there are undefined variables in any Tag, and if so, rejects saving the POD with a message like "POD contains undefined variables."

We have reviewed this idea internally but unfortunately it has not been accepted. Since the idea has not received sufficient votes since it was entered and also since we have some other tools in the product to verify template quality we will not be working on this. Thank you for your suggestion, and please enter any other ideas you have to improve the product.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this request internally but have declined it for development. The reason is that the functionality you describe appears to contradict the asynchronous request type: to wait for errors before sending the response would make the request, in a sense, synchronous. We would recommend instead to check the validity of the request in your code that calls the RESTful engine to keep your asynchronous request, but also get this feedback. Thank you for your suggestion, and please submit any other ideas you have to improve the product!

  15. formatting to respected currency (not all that are available as basic excel formats are available in windward)

we do business in 3 region and use different mode of currency payments such as USD, GBP, EUR and AED.

when building templates with relevant information that goes to finance teams for analysis i used windward(autotag) in excel linked to my SQL database. i have to created templates that are currency specific i.e. if the product was sold in GBP i have to produce all sales and expenditures towards the product in their respected GBP currency. (e.g. £1,100.56)

i have noticed that AED is not a current format that windward allows me to convert the figure too. however this feature…

  17. More efficient compression options.

When using Windward's java engine to export to PDF, the only available method for compressing output files is "setCompressionLevel". This method in our experience only shrinks files about 21.5%. In addition to this issue, when generating a windward PDF, the uncompressed file is almost 2x the size of the file if we were to make the file by hand and manually "export to pdf" from MS Word. As a test, we did this and then used Adobe Pro to compress the file. We were then able to compress the file an additional 68.2% with no noticeable quality loss.

    We would…

    Hello Reporter,

After reviewing this feature request, we understand the desire for the functionality but need to see if there is greater demand before we invest time in development. If this idea gains more votes we will re-asses the idea in the future to see if there is sufficient demand.

  18. Make image cropping work with PDF generation

When adding an image to a Word document you can select a few cropping options under picture tools / format ->crop. You can choose whether to fill or fit the image inside the allocated space. This works fine when generating to docx, however the PDF converter does not support this so whatever the value you select for cropping, the images always get squashed.

This is mainly an issue when used with an import tag to dynamically import an image; at that point we don't know what the exact aspect ratio will be, but we do want to make sure it…

    Hello Reporter,

Similar functionality to what you described was implemented in our 16.3.0 release. There are now image-crop tag settings that can allow you to do crop fill and crop fit for images at output. This setting will work to PDF output as well. Thank you for your idea, and please submit any other suggestions you have to improve our products.

  19. Possibility to add HTML header information for email templates

Would be a big improvement to have the possibility to add HTML header information when creating an e-mail template, to define following fields of the email:
    - From
    - To
    - Subject
When creating a letter-template, it's easy to add address information on the template, as the address is printed on a letter.
More and more communications are sent via email. Windward should provide the possibility to add HTML header information. Adding Tags in the HTML header would give us the possibility to add ‘invisible’ but needed tags on a template.

  20. Enemy Nations 2

Playing Enemy Nations is one of the highlights of my childhood - it was a fantastic strategy game way ahead of its time.

I realize this is not the area of focus for Windward anymore, but is there any chance that one day a sequel might be made?
